Everything you need to know about syncing your weight data and optimizing your Strava performance.
Once you've connected your Strava account and granted permission to Apple Health, WeightSync works completely in the background. Every time a new weight entry is added to Apple Health—whether from your iPhone, Apple Watch, smart scale, or any health app—we detect it instantly and update your Strava athlete weight automatically. Premium users benefit from an intelligent retry queue that ensures no weight update is ever lost, even if there's a temporary connection issue.
No. After the initial setup, you can close WeightSync and forget about it. The app uses iOS Background App Refresh to monitor Apple Health for weight changes. For optimal performance, keep the app in your recent apps (background) rather than force-closing it. This ensures the most reliable sync behavior due to iOS system limitations.
Any smart scale that writes data to Apple Health is fully compatible with WeightSync. This includes popular brands like Withings, Garmin, Xiaomi, Eufy, Fitbit Aria, QardioBase, and many more. If your scale syncs to HealthKit, WeightSync will automatically detect and sync those weight readings to Strava—no manual intervention needed.
The Apple Watch companion app lets you register your weight directly from your wrist. Simply open WeightSync on your Watch, use the Digital Crown to adjust your weight, and tap to save. Your weight is instantly synced to Apple Health on your iPhone and, if you're a Premium user, automatically updated on Strava. The Watch app also features complications for quick access from any watch face, displaying your most recent weight at a glance.
Premium users benefit from our automatic retry queue system. If a sync fails due to network issues or temporary API problems, the weight entry is safely queued and automatically retried in the background using an intelligent exponential backoff strategy. You'll receive notifications about sync failures only after multiple retry attempts, and you can manually trigger a retry anytime from the app. Your data is never lost.
Due to Strava API limitations, we can only update your current athlete weight—not create historical weight records with specific dates. This means any weight you sync will appear as "today" on Strava, regardless of when it was originally recorded in Apple Health. This is a platform constraint from Strava, not a limitation of WeightSync. However, we maintain a complete sync history within the app so you can track all your weight updates with their original timestamps.
Extra Weight is a Premium feature designed for athletes who regularly train with additional load that isn't reflected in Strava's gear settings. For example, if you always carry a hydration pack, weighted vest, or backpack during training runs or rides, you can add that weight to your athlete weight for more accurate power and effort calculations in Strava. If your gear is properly configured in Strava or you don't consistently carry extra weight, leave this at zero.
Yes! WeightSync supports kilograms, pounds, and stone. You can change your preferred unit anytime in Settings, and the app will automatically convert all displayed weights. The setting syncs between your iPhone and Apple Watch for a consistent experience across devices. Your weight is always sent to Strava in kilograms, as required by their API.
WeightSync includes smart daily or weekly reminders to help you maintain consistent weight tracking. The clever part: if you've already logged your weight for the day, you'll receive a congratulations message instead of a reminder. You can customize the time and frequency in Settings. The app performs an intelligent pre-check 5 minutes before your reminder time to avoid unnecessary notifications.
The free version lets you manually register weight and save it to Apple Health. Premium unlocks automatic sync to Strava, background processing, the intelligent retry queue, Extra Weight support, weight reminders, complete sync history, and Apple Watch complications. Premium users can truly "set it and forget it"—your weight automatically stays current on Strava without any manual intervention.
No, under normal circumstances. WeightSync automatically refreshes your Strava access tokens in the background to maintain a persistent connection. However, if you change your Strava password or revoke app permissions from Strava's settings, you'll need to reconnect. The app will notify you if reconnection is needed.
Absolutely not. WeightSync follows a strict "Local-First" architecture. Your weight data flows directly from your device to Strava's API—we're just the secure conduit. We never collect, store, analyze, or sell your personal health information on our servers. Everything happens on-device, and we have zero access to your health data. Your privacy is paramount.
WeightSync requests only the minimum necessary permissions: "Read" access to Body Mass in Apple Health and "Write" permission for your Strava athlete profile. We don't request access to your activities, GPS data, heart rate, sleep data, or any other health metrics. We also don't require account creation—you authenticate directly with Apple and Strava.
No. We only request the minimal Strava permission scope needed to update your athlete weight (profile:write). We cannot see, access, or modify your activities, routes, segments, achievements, or any other Strava data. Your training data remains completely private.
All data transmission uses industry-standard HTTPS encryption. Your Strava authentication tokens are securely stored in your device's encrypted keychain, never in plain text. Communication between your iPhone and Apple Watch uses Apple's secure WatchConnectivity framework. We follow Apple's security best practices and never transmit sensitive data over unencrypted channels.
WeightSync offers three Premium options: a monthly subscription, an annual subscription (best value with significant savings), and a one-time lifetime purchase for unlimited access forever. All subscription plans include a 7-day free trial so you can test all Premium features risk-free before committing.
Yes! Both the monthly and annual subscription plans include a 7-day free trial. You can test automatic background sync, weight reminders, the retry queue, Apple Watch integration, and all other Premium features without any commitment. You won't be charged until the trial period ends, and you can cancel anytime during the trial.
All subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID, not within the app. To cancel, open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, select "Subscriptions," find WeightSync, and choose "Cancel Subscription." You'll retain Premium access until the end of your current billing period. You can also manage subscriptions directly from the App Store app.
Lifetime Premium is a one-time purchase that gives you permanent access to all Premium features forever—no recurring subscription required. This is perfect for users who plan to use WeightSync long-term and want to avoid ongoing subscription costs. Once purchased, you own it for life across all your iOS devices.
Yes! Your Premium subscription or Lifetime purchase is linked to your Apple ID. If you get a new iPhone or Apple Watch, simply download WeightSync, sign in with the same Apple ID, and your Premium status will be automatically restored. You can also manually restore purchases in Settings > Restore Purchases.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us directly. If you're unsatisfied with your purchase, you can request a refund through Apple within 90 days of purchase. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find your WeightSync purchase, and submit a refund request. Apple reviews all requests on a case-by-case basis.
First, ensure you're a Premium user (automatic sync is a Premium feature). Then verify: (1) Apple Health authorization is granted in Settings > Health > Apps > WeightSync, (2) Strava shows as "Connected" in the app's home screen, (3) Background App Refresh is enabled in iOS Settings > WeightSync, and (4) you have an active internet connection. If all these are confirmed and sync still fails, try manually syncing from the home screen or disconnecting and reconnecting your Strava account.
Make sure your iPhone and Apple Watch are connected and within Bluetooth range. The Watch app syncs weight data from your iPhone using WatchConnectivity. Try opening the WeightSync app on your iPhone first to trigger a sync, then open it on your Watch. If the issue persists, try restarting both devices and ensuring they're both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Check that: (1) Reminders are enabled in WeightSync Settings, (2) Notifications are allowed in iOS Settings > Notifications > WeightSync, (3) The reminder time is set correctly, and (4) You haven't already logged weight for the day (smart reminders auto-skip if you've already weighed in). If notifications are still not appearing, try toggling the reminder off and back on, or reinstalling the app.
This typically happens if you changed your Strava password or revoked WeightSync's access from Strava's settings. Simply tap "Connect Strava" again in the app to re-authorize. Your previous settings and sync history will be preserved. WeightSync automatically refreshes tokens to prevent expiration, but manual intervention is needed if credentials are changed externally.
Your WeightSync display preference (kg/lbs/stone) is independent of what Strava shows. Strava's API requires weight to be sent in kilograms, and how it displays on Strava depends on your Strava profile's unit preferences. To change how Strava displays your weight, log into Strava's website or app and update your profile settings to your preferred unit system.
Yes! WeightSync automatically uses the most recent weight entry in Apple Health, regardless of which app or device recorded it. If you have multiple smart scales, manual entries, and Apple Watch logs, we'll always sync the latest one to Strava. Apple Health's data source priority doesn't affect WeightSync—we simply read the most recent timestamp.
